FENCING IS OUR FUTURE

International Fencing federation (FIE) have completed its annual Congress meeting in Paris, France, performing a set of solutions and procedures within the scope of its official charter. Congress which was held in Paris “Pavillon d'Armenonville” had and represented 135 federations, as well as the committees and FIE councils, members of the Executive committee and members of honor. In addition to the Congress of this year, FIE is also celebrating its 105 years anniversary.

         The theme of the Congress of 2018 – “Fencing is our future”.

The President of FIE Alisher Usmanov has highlighted is his speech: “We have many achievements, which we can be proud of. We have ensured that all 12 disciplines on fencing were the part of the Olympic program. I think of it as one of the most important moments in the history of fencing. Organization of our big tournaments have considerably improved. We are in continuous search of new ways to promote our sport and have achieved great results in that behalf: testing and implementation of the newest technologies; increase of the quality and expansion of the number of TV broadcastings of our competition, and millions of people around the world can watch fencing now.”

Moreover, during the Congress was noted the necessity of rising of the popularization level of fencing and making fencing more impressive kind of Olympic games. Particularly, was noted the search of sponsors and finding constructive solutions on issues of organization of the activity of national fencing federations. The implications about the need to find the new ways of development and not to stop on the achieved results are made based on this.  Along with this, the management of the International fencing federation FIE pays special attention to the issues of gender equality. As, women sports, namely the sports discipline of fencing, is one of the pressing issues in the area of popularization of fencing. Particularly, this issue is deeply felt as in the Central-Asian region, so in the countries of Asia.

 

FDIE ratified one new federation as a member at the Congress of this year, as a result of which the total number has reached 153. The newest member of the nation in the fencing world of FIE is the Federation of the American Samoa.

 

World Championship owners. Within the frames of the annual work of congress, some of the countries claim the conduction of the world championship event. At the Congress, the following countries were confirmed for the year 2021 world championship:

  • Cairo, Egypt have been chosen for conduction of the world championship among juniors and cadets
  • Fort Lauderdale, FL, USA, was chosen for conduction of the World Championship on fencing of the veterans

 

World rankings. Each team and individual winner in the world championship among juniors and senior high school students on sword, foil and sabre, as well as on all countries are awarded at the Congress. This year the award receivers are the following:

  • Senior team: USA (women), Korea (men)
  • Senior specialist: Mara Navrriya (ITA), Yannik Borel (FRA)
  • Juniors national: Italy (women), Hungary (men)
  • Junior: Federika Izola (ITA), Yakun yurka (CZE)

Foil -(rapier)

  • Snior team: Italy (women), USA (men)
  • Senior specialist: Inna Deriglazova (RUS), Alessio Fokoni (ITA)
  • Juniors team: USA (women), France (men)
  • Juniors: martina Favaretto (ITA), Tommazo Marini (ITA)

Sabre

  • Senior team: France (women), Korea (men)
  • Senior specialist: Olga Kharlan (UKR), Elli Dershvits (USA)
  • Junior national: Russia (women), Italy (men)
  • Junior: Lisa Pushtay (HUN), Konstantin Lokhanov(RUS)

 

Grand Prize of the Nations

  • Elderly: Italy
  • Juniors: Italy

 

Fair game. Based on the suggestion of the Council on the fair game of FIE the Executive Committee of FIE assigns the trophy Fair Play to one or several individuals in the world fencing, which have demonstrated a significant act of fair game during the year. In 2018 the award went to Christian Bauer (FRA), marko Fichera (ITA) and Katherine Holms (USA).
